Frank Nikiel died on the 6th December, 2004.
This is an extract of his life - Born in Poland in 1920 he showed great talent as a young boy. He took violin and flying lessons - the two loves he had throughout his life. As a commercial pilot he always took his violin with him. As a violinist he would have become famous but when the Second World War came he escaped from Poland and joined the RAF Polish Division in England. At the end of the war he was decorated with the Polish D.F.C. After serving three more years he went into civil aviation. When he finally gave up flying his logbook showed he had spent three whole years up in the air !
He loved life and called himself the Ambassador to the World - many people in
many countries appreciated his sense of humour and his music.
Frank was inseparable from his cousin Lou, who shared his escape from Poland, of
flying in War and Civil Airlines, and the two of them often entertained others
with music recitals.
In later life, due to debilitating illness, Frank became a very private person,
taking comfort in his music and memories, being cared for by his
wife, Anna.
The Obituary notice was kindly submitted by Jack Langley.
