An interesting group showing timetable covers and scheduled times for two services.
Welcome Aboard -- I would say this speaks for itself.
The cover of
the routing booklet for Singapore and Hong Kong trooping service.
This is the London - Hong Kong + London - Singapore Route Map kindly donated by
Richard
Williams a passenger returning from his posting as an RAF serviceman in
Singapore in 1964.
Richard Williams also donated a Flight Bulletin from a repatriation flight he
made in 1957 reporting
the leg from Aden to Benina en route to the UK in a
Handley page Hermes of Britavia . Please note
it was customary in those days for passengers to night stop en route -- no such thing as flying
at night.
A brain teaser. Is this 1966 or 2002 ??
An interesting
extract from the 1967 Chairman's Report. Names to faces please.
Innsbruck by Viking for £10.8.0 single in 1958/9 . Beat that Easy Jet !!
Some of the great and the good who flew British Eagle in 1966/7.
An in-flight
position report for EG3450 on 10th June 1968 en route to Caracas.
Chief Pilot Captain Harold Watkins talking to a youthful Les Ross.
A good example for Summer
1958.
This time Summer 1959. Could that
be a Britannia you see (a year early!!)
High hopes for 1962 -- but unfortunately
they were not to be.
A look back at 1957. Note the logo.
Bristol Freighter
G-AHJD at RAF El Adem in the late 50s. I understand the flight there carried a spare
engine and propellor for a Viking that had a 'landing incident'. Up until the early
60s when the military withdrew from the Middle East area regular flights were made by
civil airlines to the various units and stations transporting personnel, families and
freight. Visible behind the tail of the Bristol Freighter is an RAF Canberra which appears
to have had some problem with its nosewheel.
A crew
Flight Notification card referring to a flight to Palma on June 12th 1958. The card is
signed by Les Ross.
The name
& address side of the Flight Notification card for the above flight. The post stamp
date is June 10th 1958. Note also the 3d stamp around 1p at today's prices.
Around the
late 50s Name to the face here please.
G-ANCF which since the emergency landing at Manston in 1967
has had a number of homes. Now dismantled its present resting
place is at Kemble Airfield near Cirencester. Ultimately it is hoped it will be
rebuilt with a possible home at Filton if plans to build a museum to Bristol
Airplane Co products becomes a reality.
Former Flight Navigator Bert Lord who left British Eagle in 1965 to join
Caledonian Airways and is pictured at his retirement party in 1973.
The Family Newman flew with British Eagle in 1967 to a new life in Perth Western
Australia. As a former passenger Ian Newman was sent the Round Robin regarding
the restoration of G-ANCF at Liverpool. He replied to the round robin and
advised regarding the family holding a get together to celebrate their 40 years
in Perth. He also sent the montage above part of which shows the route of their
flight to Perth
